Professor Tang Lijun, a professor of School of Foreign Languages, Guizhou University of Finance and Economics with a Ph.D, works on linguistics and applied linguistics and excels at translation, rhetoric and academic writing.
Professor Tang, the experienced tutor of our school who takes responsibility for both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, is devoted to collaborating her teaching with the students’ aptitude by a unique teaching style with original ideas and innovative solutions. Thus she has harvested plentiful achievements in both academic research and reformed teaching.
As for "teaching innovation", Professor Tang believes that university professors firstly should have an awareness of different concerns for undergraduates and postgraduates as well as integrating the ideological and political education in the process of teaching. On the one hand, it is desirable for undergraduates to expose to comprehensive quality education, therefore concerns should be devoted in knowledge constructing and their all-round language development in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Teachers should be more motivating and stimulating to inspire students’ active learning and exploring. While on the other hand, postgraduates are more concerned about knowledge producing and knowledge integration. Focus ought to be put on the cultivation of connection and combination knowledge with practice, and it is much beneficial to give appropriate guidance to promote their autonomy for wider and deeper exploration.
Meanwhile, Professor Tang also greatly values students’ innovative ideas. Professor Tang stresses much on the conscious cultivation of students' innovation and critical thinking. She would like to encourage students to “go out into the world to practise the theory and theorize the practice in turn”, which helps students find out the shortcomings and seek the innovative solutions in practice. As a result, extensive reading and learning are quite essential to trigger critical thinking and for students to apply the knowledge in the practice. In the field of study and research, students need to think outside the constraint and refrain themselves from falling into the old patterns so that they can find a new way out and achieve innovation consciousness.
Finally, Professor Tang expresses great expectations of personal growth for students during their university years. She wishes the students great academic achievements, enhanced physical and psychological qualities, as well as a big vision and bright future.
